Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

    A.  YES. You will not be cleared for graduation nor will you be able to receive your diploma if you have not completed your Cultural Events requirement.

     

    A. The address is 1162 Eden Terrace, Rock Hill, SC 29730

    A.   No. There will not be a rehearsal. However, there will be a virtual Commencement 101 Information Session TBA on Zoom. For those who are unable to attend the information session, a video recording will be made available on the Commencement website.

    A.   The Senior Survey will be e-mailed to all degree candidates the week of graduation. Be sure to complete it!

    A.  No. However, due to space limitations in the coliseum, we request that you limit the number of guests invited to EIGHT GUESTS.  

    A. Yes. The Commencement ceremony will be livestreamed (a link will be available on the Winthrop homepage the day of the ceremony) for the convenience of family and friends that cannot be in attendance.

    A. Yes. Recordings of the livestream will be archived and available for viewing on YouTube in the weeks following the ceremony.

    A. CHECK-IN:

    10:00 a.m. Ceremony CHECK-IN BEGINS AT 8:30 a.m.

    A.  When you arrive in the CHECK-IN area, you will be given a card with your name and seat number. You will be directed to your seat by a student marshals.  

    A. Yes. Only the flat top area of the cap may be decorated. Adornments must lay flat on the surface of the cap. Decorations cannot extend beyond the border of the cap or fall below the perimeter. Decorations may not include anything obscene, profane, vulgar or lewd.

    Any adornment or message on caps deemed inappropriate or determined to pose a safety risk or distraction will not be allowed.

    A.  All commencement participants must wear only appropriate academic regalia which is distributed to students through the campus bookstore.  Graduates who are members of academic honor societies  may wear cords and/or pins representing University-recognized academic honor societies and stoles representing Winthrop organizations.  Please check with your Chair of your Honor Society regarding cords, stoles and/or pins.

     

    A.  Do not bring anything ‘extra’ with you to check-in, as no storage will be provided for your items.  Do not bring anything that you cannot put in your pocket. If you bring a purse, make sure that it has a strap so that you can wear it under your gown if necessary.

     

    A.  No. You will receive your diploma in a designated area off the arena floor immediately after the ceremony.  

    A.  All diplomas not picked up after the ceremony can be obtained in the Office of Records and Registration, Tillman 126 the following week.  All diplomas not picked up will be mailed to the address on file in Wingspan. Make sure all mailing addresses are updated to avoid delay.

    Please check your Wingspan account to make sure that your Permanent Address is up to date (directions: Wingspan > Personal Information > Update Addresses and Phones > Permanent Address).
