Diversity & Student Engagement

About Us

Winthrop University's student body totals more than 6,000 and is composed of individuals from various ethnic and cultural backgrounds who make up approximately 38% of the university's population.

In an effort to promote cultural diversity, the Office of Diversity & Student Engagement provides students, faculty members, and staff with several avenues through which they can enhance their knowledge about other cultures and the diversity issues that individuals belonging to such cultures face in today's society. We sponsor a number of multicultural clubs and organizations as well as special events throughout the school-year that bring light to such topics.

Instead of taking the holiday off, participate in Winthrop University's MLK Week of Service from January 18 - 22, 2021!

The MLK Service Week honors Dr. King's legacy of service by working with the community, building unity and cultivating relationships across campuses and communities around the world. We would be remiss to not offer you all this powerful opportunity to serve in your community. Due to covid-19, students will not gather in Richardson Ballroom to receive their assigned service projects. This year, we are putting the students in the driver seat! We've adopted three organizations that we'll focus our efforts on this year. Click the link below to participate in a service project with one of these organizations. No need to worry about doing the service on the official Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, we've made arrangements so that students can choose a time throughout the week.
