Winthrop University strives to offer its students a setting in which they can mature
culturally, as well as intellectually. In an effort to provide a well-rounded education,
the Winthrop faculty has approved a Cultural Events policy. The purpose of the Cultural Events requirement is to establish and foster a life-enriching
pattern of cultural involvement. A student's record of attendance at Cultural Events
is maintained by the Cultural Events Coordinator and can be viewed on the student's Wingspan account and Degree Works worksheet (instructions on accessing this information can be found under Frequently Asked Questions).
By attending Cultural Events, a student experiences firsthand the diverse offerings
of culture and artistic expression found in a community. Approved Cultural Events
cover a wide variety of programs both on and off campus. Events that are selected
are chosen from areas such as plays, films, art exhibitions, dance, and musical performances
or from lectures of general appeal. The Cultural Events Committee determines what
events are accepted for Cultural Event status. Each semester, a calendar of approved Cultural Events is prepared and posted. Over the course of a semester, more events are added to the
calendar as they are approved.
Explore a wide variety of events each semester, including theatrical productions, concerts and recitals, art exhibitions, film screenings, lectures and discussions, and more.
By graduation, each undergraduate student is required to attend a certain number of Cultural Events based on the number of credit hours completed at Winthrop University.
Approved events are chosen from areas such as plays, films, art exhibitions, dance, and musical performances, or from lectures of general appeal. The Winthrop faculty has established a set of guidelines for events.
The purpose of this form is to propose an event that would be an appropriate addition to the Cultural Events calendar. Each event must be sponsored by a University faculty or staff member.
