Winthrop University: Cultural Events

Cultural Events

About Us

Winthrop University strives to offer its students a setting in which they can mature culturally, as well as intellectually. In an effort to provide a well-rounded education, the Winthrop faculty has approved a Cultural Events policy. The purpose of the Cultural Events requirement is to establish and foster a life-enriching pattern of cultural involvement. A student's record of attendance at Cultural Events is maintained by the Cultural Events Coordinator and can be viewed on the student's Wingspan account and Degree Works worksheet (instructions on accessing this information can be found under Frequently Asked Questions).

By attending Cultural Events, a student experiences firsthand the diverse offerings of culture and artistic expression found in a community. Approved Cultural Events cover a wide variety of programs both on and off campus. Events that are selected are chosen from areas such as plays, films, art exhibitions, dance, and musical performances or from lectures of general appeal. The Cultural Events Committee determines what events are accepted for Cultural Event status. Each semester, a calendar of approved Cultural Events is prepared and posted. Over the course of a semester, more events are added to the calendar as they are approved.
