"To bridge the gap between students, alumni and the community by shedding light on the treasures and traditions of Winthrop University."

SAC members on Garnet and Gold Friday

The Winthrop Alumni Association established the Student Alumni Council (SAC) in 1984 to educate students about Winthrop’s treasures and traditions. SAC members are “tradition keepers,” keeping the spirit of Winthrop traditions alive for the current study body.

SAC engages and educates students and the campus community in the history and traditions of Winthrop, educates students on how they can stay connected to Winthrop after graduation and assists students in transitioning to alumni.

Follow SAC on Instagram (winthropsac) to see what we are up to!

SAC Recruitment

We look for excited, passionate Winthrop students who want to share their love of Winthrop and its traditions with students. Students interested in joining SAC will complete an application and an interview with the executive committee and Alumni Association staff.

We have completed recruitment for 2025. Applications will re-open in August 2026.

Involvement on Campus

From freshmen move-in day through graduation, SAC members serve as the resident "tradition keepers" who promote the spirit, history and tradition of Winthrop and provide opportunities for students to develop into active, engaged citizens and future alumni. Events that SAC hosts include:

  • Grad Finale
  • Ring Ceremony
  • Ghost Tours
  • Homecoming and Reunion
  • Garnet & Gold Fridays
  • Annual Tree Lighting

Upcoming Events

The Student Alumni Council offers a number of events and activities to keep Winthrop students engaged throughout the year. Follow SAC on  Instagram (@winthropsac) for updates on upcoming events!
