"To bridge the gap between students, alumni and the community by shedding light on the treasures and traditions of Winthrop University."
The Winthrop Alumni Association established the Student Alumni Council (SAC) in 1984 to stimulate the interest and participation of students in the progress of the university and to preserve and further the feeling of loyalty and fellowship between the university, students, community and alumni.
SAC members, often referred to as “tradition keepers,” foster a desire among students to support the university and concern for its well-being; educates students on the purposes, benefits and activities of the Alumni Association; shows students ways in which they can support the University following graduation; identifies specific needs of students as they prepare for graduation to assist them in making the transition from students to alumni; and engages and educates students and the campus community in the history and traditions of the University.
We look for excited, passionate Winthrop students who want to share their love of Winthrop and its traditions with students. Students interested in joining SAC will complete an application and an interview with the executive committee and Alumni Association staff.
We have completed fall 2024 recruitment. Keep an eye out for applications to re-open in August 2025!
From freshmen move-in day through graduation, SAC members serve as the resident "tradition keepers" who promote the spirit, history and tradition of Winthrop and provide opportunities for students to develop into active, engaged citizens and future alumni. Events that SAC hosts include:
