The Office of Accessibility (OA) provides academic services and accommodations for
students
with diagnosed disabilities. The documentation provided regarding the disability diagnosis
must
demonstrate a disability covered under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
and Title II
of the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments (ADAAA) of 2008. The ADA defines
a
disability as a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more
major life
activity. Eligibility for accommodations will be determined on a case-by-case basis
following
communication with the student and a thorough review of documentation indicating functional
limitations that would impact the individual in an academic setting.
OA engages an interactive process including the student and self-report, history of effective
accommodations, and any supportive documentation. Relevant documentation will help
define any functional limitations that may impact the student in the academic setting.
Once accommodations are provided, the student is responsible for informing their instructors of their need for accommodation.
