Tailgate Information

In 2019, a number of changes were implemented for the Saturday, Nov. 16, events at the Coliseum area. These changes led to a safer and more enjoyable experience for all in attendance. See below for a recap of event timing, parking, location and other aspects of tailgating.

TIMING OF EVENTS

Homecoming tailgating was available from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16. The men’s basketball game began at 4 p.m. The tailgating end time of 3:30 p.m. allowed sufficient time for staff to address clean up of the parking lots and tailgating area before dark. Clearing attendees from the parking lots and tailgating area began promptly and was successful. Thank you, attendees, for your cooperation!

PARKING FOR THE GAME/TAILGATING

For the Homecoming game and tailgating, paid parking at $5 per car, cash only, was implemented. The funds collected from parking helped offset the cost of event personnel, law enforcement, trash receptacles, signage and restroom facilities for the day’s events.

LOCATION OF TAILGATING & NEW RESERVATION SYSTEM

In 2019, a tailgating reservation system was implemented to allow student and alumni groups to better plan for their tailgate setups and locations. Tents were only allowed in the tailgating section, although attendees could tailgate from their parked vehicles without tents. Reserving spots helped ensure less crowded conditions which helped event staff monitor and support the event.

MISCELLANEOUS

Per the tailgating policy, attendees were asked to remove their own trash from tailgating—whether in the parking lots or in the designated tailgating area. The cooperation of attendees in this regard was much appreciated.

The tailgating policy also governed what was allowed in regard to alcohol consumption and prohibited items/activities.
