Center for Student Wellness

Health Services is designed to provide confidential, professional, quality, cost-effective, acute, and routine medical care for all enrolled Winthrop University students. The staff of Health Services is committed in obtaining optimum personal health for each student through services and programs provided.

Health Services offers in-person healthcare for eligible students. Students are encouraged to self-schedule in the PyraMED portal; walk-ins will experience higher wait times.

Counseling Services will provide quality mental health service to enhance the overall mental health of Winthrop University students along cognitive, emotional, personal, and interpersonal dimensions.

• Use the portal to schedule First Time Appointments and Requests for a CallBack from the Same Day Counselor.  E-mail wuhealth@winthrop.edu or your previous counselor to schedule a follow-up appointment.

• In-Person or Telemental Health Sessions: All appointments (Intake, Ongoing, Psychiatric) may be In-Person or via Telemental Health

• Medication Management: Students seeking new appointments with the Nurse Practitioner for medication management should speak with their ongoing counselor for a referral.  Current clients of the Nurse Practitioner can call the front desk at 803/323-2206 to schedule follow-up appointments. 

• First-Time Appointments: Students can schedule their first session (intake) by calling the front desk (803/323-2206) or online at the PyraMED Patient Portal. Intake appointments are same-day only, so login first thing in the morning on the day you'd like your appt. If all the appointments for the day are full, and you are in urgent need - ask the front desk to speak with the Same Day Counselor.

• Ongoing Appointments: Students who are currently engaged in Counseling Services or who wish to resume services may call the front desk (803/323-2206) or e-mail their counselor in order to schedule an appointment.

• Crisis: If a student is in crisis after hours, please call or text 988, the Suicide Prevention Lifeline or text the Crisis Text Line (text HELLO to 741741). 

The Student Advocacy and Trauma Support is committed to providing quality services and advocacy to victims and survivors of sexual assault, stalking, and domestic and dating violence through a concentrated community response. We support and provide programming and education directed at eradicating sexual violence both on campus and in the community.

Health Promotion provides a collaborative, evidence-based approach to individual and community wellness through health promotion, educational programming, and service to the Winthrop community. Health Promotion promotes the physical, emotional, social, intellectual, occupational, and spiritual well-being of Winthrop students by enabling them to make informed choices conducive to healthy lifestyles.

Blue Cross Blue Shield Academic Health Plans (AHP)As a member of the South Carolina Consortium, Winthrop participates in the Student Health Insurance Plan through Blue Cross Blue Shield administered by Academic Health Plans (AHP).  *Qualifying students may purchase the Student Health Insurance Plan directly from My AHP Care. Payment options are per semester or academic year. All approved plan materials and applicable documents are available on the My AHP Care website.
