Immunization Requirements
All students who will reside on campus and/or attend in-person classes must meet Winthrop’s
immunization requirements no later than July 15 for Fall semester and December 1 for Spring semester.
Incoming residential students will not be permitted to select a move-in appointment
until immunization compliance is complete. Students who are not compliant by the first
day of classes will have an immunization hold placed on their account and may be assessed
a non-refundable $100 Non-Compliance Fee. This fee can be avoided by meeting all requirements
by the stated deadlines.
All incoming students must complete immunization compliance through the PyraMED patient
portal using their Winthrop (Wingspan) login credentials.

All students must:
- Complete all forms labeled “Required for Immunization Compliance”
- Upload official immunization documentation
- Enter all immunization dates
Students vaccinated in South Carolina may see immunization records pre-populated in
the portal; however, it remains the student’s responsibility to verify that all required
information is accurate, complete, and submitted.
The attached Immunization Information sheet (pdf - 323K), gives detailed directions and information on the CDC requirements and recommendations
for vaccines.
Paper documents will NOT be accepted. Documentation must be
uploaded and forms completed in the PyraMED patient portal.
Winthrop University requires all students born on or after January 1, 1957 to provide
proof of immunity to:
- Measles (Rubeola), German Measles (Rubella), and Mumps (Covered by MMR vaccine).
- Two valid doses of MMR (or the equivalent) or blood levels showing immunity are required.
- All students must have a Tetanus vaccination within the last ten years.
- The Meningococcal vaccine requirement can be completed by uploading documentation of the vaccine or
by reading and signing the Meningitis waiver (located on left side of current page
under Related Links > Forms). The CDC recommends a booster be given if meningitis
vaccine was received before age 16. If the booster was received, the waiver is not
applicable.
- All students must complete the Tuberculosis Screening.
- Medical and religious exemptions are allowed by law. If a vaccine-preventable disease
outbreak occurs and a student has not been immunized or provided proof of immunity,
the South Carolina Department of Public Health may require their exclusion from the
University for a specified period of time. In such cases, Winthrop University is not
responsible for missed classes, and tuition and fees will not be refunded. During
this time, students should follow the Absence Notification process on the Dean of
Students website to notify instructors and coordinate regarding missed coursework.
Students requesting a waiver must also submit a quarantine and isolation plan specifying
where they will reside if exclusion from campus is required during an outbreak.
- Students attending a class that meets on campus for 2 weeks or less throughout the semester are exempt from the immunization requirements.
- All required immunizations are available at Health Services for a nominal fee (pdf - 209K) applied to the student's account.
