The Winthrop University Department of Social Work has partnered with the South Carolina Department of Social Services (SCDSS) to provide specialized education, training and tuition assistance to B.S.W. and M.S.W. students interested in pursuing or advancing a career in child welfare. The B.S.W. Scholars Program recuits first-semester juniors each fall. The M.S.W. Scholars Program recruits current DSS child welfare emloyees each spring. Title IV-E Child Welfare Scholars are selected through competitive application processes.
