The Winthrop University Department of Social Work has partnered with the South Carolina Department of Social Services (SCDSS) to provide specialized education, training and tuition assistance to BSW and MSW students interested in pursuing or continuing a career in child welfare. The BSW Scholars Program recuits first-semester juniors each fall. The MSW Scholars Program recruits current DSS child welfare emloyees each spring. Title IV-E Child Welfare Scholars are selected through competitive application processes.
