50 Years of Model UN and More!

We have an incredible line-up of programming coming up, and I want to share some details with you all. First is the 50th anniversary celebration of the Model United Nations program, March 25-27. We’ll welcome to campus more than 30 high schools from the Carolinas and Georgia. Next, we’ll hold the Whitton Executive Series on March 26 at 11 a.m. Emmy-winning journalist, author and national speaker Molly Grantham will discuss “Practice Makes Progress.”  Then, it’s on to our April 11 Winthrop Day, our largest event of the year for admitted students. This special day is how we seal the deal for our admits and their families. So much to look forward to!

Brand Launch Reminder

Please join us on Wednesday, March 25, at 11:30 a.m. in Whitton Auditorium for the launch of our new marketing and branding campaign. Our partner, 160over90, will give a presentation on the process, the development of the strategy and the new creative direction for our marketing. There also will be free swag! Read more of the details in the March 13 email that Amanda James and I sent to faculty, staff and students. I hope to see you there!

Presidential Student Ambassadors
One of our phase 2 Winthrop: United in Excellence strategic plan initiatives is launching a Presidential Student Ambassadors Program. This is a carefully selected cohort of 40–50 students who will serve as the face of the university at presidential, admissions, advancement and alumni events. The Presidential Ambassadors will represent the institution with professionalism, warmth and pride, and serve as trusted partners to campus leadership and proud champions of the Winthrop experience. These are compensated positions. If a student comes to mind who you believe would represent Winthrop well in this manner, please take a moment to submit a nomination form by March 27. The first cohort will begin in the fall.

Collegiate Disc Golf National Championship
Next month we’ll once again host the Collegiate Disc Golf National Championship at our renowned disc golf course and other courses in town. Hundreds of athletes representing Division I, II and III teams will compete during the April 8-11 event. Hopefully beautiful Carolina weather will greet these teams, and if you have the chance, head out to the Winthrop Lake to watch some of the best collegiate disc golfers compete for the national championship. Check out the schedule.

As always, there’s a lot happening during this time, and please know that I appreciate everyone’s contributions. I hope to see you at some of the events above!
