Supporting Dr. Edward Serna in his leadership role at Winthrop is his family: wife Lauren and daughters Anna Kate and Caroline. The Sernas enjoy traveling, the outdoors, hiking, snow and water activities, and all things Star Wars.
First lady Lauren Serna is an advancement professional who has worked in donor relations and events in higher education. Lauren was most recently the associate director of advancement at the University of Maine Farmington. She also served as associate director of development, director of development and events, and career coordinator at the University of Arkansas Fort Smith.
Lauren attended Wallace State Community College in Hanceville, Alabama, followed by the University of North Alabama in Florence, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in fitness management and business administration.
The Sernas’ two daughters, Anna Kate and Caroline, are active students who enjoy competitive dance, snow skiing, and horseback riding. They share their parents’ love of the outdoors and their family dog, a Cockapoo named Cooper. The Sernas reside on campus in the historic President’s House.
