On behalf of the Dean of Students Office in the Division of Student Affairs. I am delighted to welcome you to Winthrop University. As a new or returning student, what awaits you this year are enriching, instructive, and transformative moments that will shape your Winthrop experience. I, along with Miranda Knight, Assistant Dean of Students, and Amy Sharpe, Executive Assistant, look forward to providing care, support, and advocacy as you experience these moments, both inside and outside the classroom.
We understand that each student brings diverse life experiences to Winthrop, and we encourage you to share them with others to deepen your appreciation of the varied perspectives on campus. We also understand students may encounter new challenges and personal obstacles throughout the year. To assist students, we offer appointments, either in person or virtual, to discuss potential solutions available on campus or in the surrounding community. Furthermore, we provide a comprehensive set of resources that address food insecurity, academic and non-academic concerns, absence notification, and emergency funding.
The Dean of Students Office also oversees and manages the Student Handbook and Code of Conduct. These institutional documents contain pertinent information about campus policies, define behavioral expectations for students, and outline potential sanctions for violations. To create and maintain a safe campus community, we expect students to read the Student Handbook and Code of Conduct and follow its policies.
Finally, to enhance your academic experiences, I strongly encourage you to explore internship opportunities, join student organizations, pursue leadership roles, and attend athletic and cultural events.
