Welcome to the Department of Social Work at Winthrop University. To learn more about Social Work you can visit the new CSWE Student Website or take a look at What do Social Workers do with their degree?

As a student-centered learning community, the Department follows the established core social work values of service, social justice, the dignity and worth of the person, the importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence. We offer the following degree options to educate students to become generalist practice and advanced practice social workers:

Bachelor of Social Work (B.S.W.) degree

Preparing students to move directly into social work positions in a wide range of settings with a focus in generalist practice.

Social Work Minors

Offering three minors for Winthrop Undergraduates. The Social Welfare minor is designed for students interested in the general social welfare field who do not plan to enter into professional social work practice. The Child and Youth Well-Being minor is available to both Social Work majors and non-majors. The Gerontology minor is open to all undergraduate students focusing on aging and and life-span development.

Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) degree

Offering an advanced concentration in empowerment practice across systems (individuals and families, small groups, and communities and organizations). Includes full-time, weekend, and our 100% online program options.

Field placements are an important component in all programs.

The Office of Field Instruction coordinates and supports graduate and undergraduate internships in a wide variety of local and regional agencies. If you need to register for Field Orientation, please visit the Office of Field Instruction here.
