Retired from full-time employment, Dr. Gloria Jones is an Emeritus Professor and the inaugural Student Advocate at Winthrop University. Housed in Dean of Students Office, the Student Advocate will work with students whose academic success is in jeopardy because of circumstances beyond their control.
In her more than 40 years at Winthrop — during which she received the Faculty Student Life Award for Service to Students, the Kinard Award for Excellence in Teaching, the Margaret Bryant Endowed Professorship in English, and the Mary Spann Richardson Award for providing Winthrop University positive visibility throughout South Carolina and the United States— she has served as the director of the Writing Center, the director of writing, the chair of the Department of English, and the dean of University College.
