Student ID Photo Requirements

How to Get a Winthrop Student ID

Come to the Technology Services Office in 2 McBryde Hall (across from the West Center) to have your photo taken. Your ID will be ready immediately.

If you cannot come in person, Winthrop University's Technology Services Office accepts electronically submitted photos for identification cards. To submit your photo, please carefully follow the instructions below.

NOTE: Unless this is your very first Winthrop ID, there will be a $10 charge applied to your account for processing of an online ID request.

PHOTO GUIDELINES

Your submitted photo must be a recent headshot (like a passport or driver's license photo) that meets the following requirements:

  • Unaltered/unedited picture taken recently
  • Smiling or neutral facial expression with both eyes open
  • Full-color; no photo filters or color changes made to photo
  • Full-face view directly facing the camera
  • Solid-colored; light, plain backdrop (not white or dark)
  • Individual photo with no other people/things/animals

In terms of clothing, please wear clothing worn on daily basis and avoid the following:

  • Hats or head coverings that obscure hair or hairline unless they are worn for documented religious or medical purposes
  • Headphones, wireless headsets, electronic gadgets, phones or similar devices
  • Eyeglasses with dark or tinted lenses

Prescription glasses, a hearing device, or similar articles are acceptable if they do no obstruct the full-face view. Photos taken with eyeglasses cannot show glare.

 

Submitting Your Photo

To submit a photo, send an e-mail from your Winthrop e-mail account to servicedesk@winthrop.edu with the following information:

  • Subject: ID Photo Submission
  • Body:
    •  Your Full Name and CWID
      • Example: John Doe W10122101
         
        You may find your CWID on your Wingspan account. It is the 8-digit number located in the top-right corner of the Student Records Menu that starts with the letter W.
    • Current mailing address ONLY IF you are a 100% online student who does not live locally. All other IDs will be printed and ready for pick up.
  • Attachment: Attach your photo (file name is irrelevant) in jpg/jpeg file format.

Once you have submitted your photo, you will receive an e-mail from Technology Services confirming the approval of your photo or informing you of issues regarding your submitted photo. Please allow 2-3 business days from the date of submission for your order to be processed.
