Students - September 11, 2020

Dear Campus Community,

While we have struggled in recent months to come together as a campus community and as a nation, we should pause today to remember those who perished in the attacks on September 11, 2001, as well as those first responders who put their lives in peril to serve others on that fateful day. We also remember those who, in subsequent years, fought and died to uphold American ideals across the globe.

In memory of those individuals, the flags in front of Tillman Hall will be lowered to half-staff on Friday, September 11, 2020. At 8:46 a.m., the Tillman chimes will play "Taps” and God Bless America" in tribute to the lives lost and to those who continue to defend our freedom today. Wherever you are today, on campus or at home, I hope you will pause and reflect on the impact of this day and what we can learn from this pivotal moment in our American history.  Even at a time when uncertainties abound for each of us, we can choose to rededicate ourselves to service, civic engagement, and social justice.
Despite the challenges we face as a nation, this is the land that we love. Its healing, unity, and renewal is needed today as it was after September 11, 2001.
