Students - August 23, 2021

Dear Students:

Welcome back to campus!  As I mentioned in my July communication, Winthrop has received $7.3 million in COVID relief funds as part of the American Rescue Plan (ARP) to be distributed to students.  I am pleased to announce the application is now open.

Students who wish to apply for this funding need to complete an applicationDeadline to submit application is September 13, 2021, by 12:00 p.m. (noon).  Late applications will not be accepted, so please apply soon.  Because of the large amount of funding, I encourage all students who have college expenses, or who have experienced pandemic expenses, to apply for this funding.  We expect this to be the last round of funding the federal government will be providing.  Receiving prior COVID funding should not discourage you from submitting an application for this funding.

Unlike prior funding, international and DACA students are eligible to apply.  Students must be attending fall 2021 and be degree-seeking. (Winthrop Think College, Dietetic Internship and Counseling Certificate students also are eligible as they can receive federal financial aid.)  Students attending 100% online programs also are eligible to apply.

Funding amounts per student will depend on the number of applications, and Winthrop does plan to determine award amounts based on a student’s status as Pell-eligible or non-Pell eligible.  We anticipate that funding will be distributed to eligible applicants by late September.

We know our students and families continue to be affected by the pandemic and hope this funding will help relieve some of your financial worries.

If you have any questions about the application process, please contact the Office of Financial Aid at finaid@winthrop.edu

Sincerely,

George
