I hope you are able to join me tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. at the Tillman Fountain Plaza to remember and reflect on the thousands of lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001. There will be a flag salute by the Winthrop ROTC, patriotic music, some brief remarks and a moment of silence. I encourage you to wear red, white and blue.
After the Tillman event, there will be a 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb from 9-11 a.m. inside the Winthrop Coliseum. Local firefighters, first responders and others will pay tribute to FDNY firefighters by climbing or walking the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center and to symbolically complete their journey. You may drop by to watch and support these local heroes climb the facility’s stairs, some in their full gear. Some of our athletes are expected to participate as well.
