Faculty and Staff - May 1, 2023

You’re invited!

Please see the attached flier and join me and the Winthrop Diversity Council as we celebrate PricewaterhouseCoopers’ (PwC) CEO action initiative on diversity and inclusion during the upcoming Day of Understanding. Our event will help foster the goal of Winthrop’s campus being a trusting place where difficult conversations surrounding diversity can occur. It will be held Thursday, May 4, at 11 a.m. in Dina’s Place.

This year’s event theme is “Multicultural and International Experiences.”

I want to thank several faculty members who will talk about their culture and how they have acclimated to living in the southeastern part of the United States. Those faculty members are: Myles Calvert (Canada), assistant professor of fine arts; Catherine Chang (Taiwan), assistant professor of history; Monique Constance-Huggins (St. Vincent), associate professor of social work; Duha Hamed (Jordan/Palestine), associate professor of mathematics; Anna Romanova (Russia), assistant professor of quantitative methods; Danko Tarabar (Serbia), associate professor of economics; and Silvia Wozniak (Brazil), adjunct faculty member in biology. Special thanks also to Leigh Poole, director of the International Center and interim dean of University College, who will moderate the discussion.

I also want to acknowledge the continuing, positive work of the Diversity Council, a committee consisting of faculty, staff and students. Please join me in thanking them for their efforts:
