Dear Colleagues,
Please join me and the Winthrop Diversity Council as we celebrate PricewaterhouseCoopers’ (PwC) CEO action initiative on diversity and inclusion during the upcoming Day of Understanding. Our event will help foster the goal of Winthrop’s campus being a trusting place where difficult conversations surrounding diversity can occur. It will be held Tuesday, April 12, at 11 a.m. via Zoom. The link is available here for registration. An in-person lunch following the event will be provided to the first 20 who register.
I want to thank three members of our community, Philip Gibson, Shelley Hamill and Semeka Randall Lay, who will be joining us that day to share their stories and moments of bravery as they have encountered bias in their lives.
I also want to acknowledge the continuing, positive work of the Diversity Council, a committee consisting of faculty, staff and students who are charged with helping actualize Winthrop’s diversity goals and objectives as stated in Goal #3 of the Winthrop Plan. Please join me in thanking them for their efforts:
Zan Jones – Human Resources, Employee Diversity and Wellness (Chair)
Adolphus Belk – College of Arts and Sciences
Kinyata Brown – Student Life
Karen Howard – College of Visual and Performing Arts
Erin Emiroglu – Student representative
Crystal Glover – College of Education

Chris Keck – Office of Accessibility
Stephanie Lawson – College of Business Administration
Brandon Ranallo-Benavidez – College of Arts and Sciences

Again, I hope to see you on April 12 at 11 a.m. on Zoom for what is sure to be a memorable experience as we expand our understanding and appreciation of diversity.
Sincerely,
George
