Dear Colleagues:
I’m very pleased to announce that Graduate School Dean Jack DeRochi will be the interim Vice President for Access and Enrollment Management as we undertake a national search to fill the position held since 2014 by Eduardo Prieto. As announced January 11, Eduardo is joining the leadership of the University of Mississippi later this month.
Jack has years of experience at Winthrop, has taught English courses and been an administrator, and has provided exemplary leadership to the Graduate School for nearly nine years. I’m particularly pleased that we won’t miss a beat on the enrollment front with Jack’s already close ties to the AEM division.
Jack regularly attends and reports graduate enrollment information during meetings of the Enrollment and Retention Committee of the Board of Trustees. He also worked closely with admissions and financial aid staff on the launch of the 100 percent online graduate programs and the Bachelor of Professional Studies degree program. He has participated in regular admissions meetings with the deans and administrators in the academic colleges as well.
Jack will join the President’s Cabinet and report to me in oversight of the AEM division. He will continue in his role as Dean of the Graduate School, reporting to Provost and Executive Vice President Adrienne McCormick as well.
Jack became dean of the Graduate School at Winthrop in July 2012 after serving as associate dean in the College of Arts and Sciences. A tenured English professor, he has taught classes on the British novel, drama and satire, and has researched 18th-century drama. He received his Ph.D. in Restoration and 18th-century British literature from the University of South Carolina.
I feel certain Jack will do a great job supporting the AEM division while the national search is underway. The search will commence immediately and hopefully be filled by July 1. Details regarding the search committee and timeline will be shared at a later date by co-chairs Lisa Cowart and Zan Jones of Human Resources, Employee Diversity and Wellness.
Please congratulate Jack on this new role when you see him around campus!
Sincerely,
George
