Faculty and Staff - July 20, 2020

Dear Colleagues:

I hope this email continues to find you and your loved ones healthy and well.

We have started the university's reopening process following several months of a majority of us working remotely. As I've said before, I've been so impressed with the can-do attitude and the resiliency that the Winthrop community has shown during these last few months. As we prepare to safely welcome back our students next month, I know that we are all working toward the same goal: to provide our students the exceptional Winthrop education they expect and deserve while also keeping the health and safety of our campus community at the forefront of everything we do.

As you'll see, the summer Winthrop Magazine contains COVID-19-related content from a variety of areas across the university. I want to share the compelling content with you because I think it's truly eye-opening and impressive how Winthrop has responded to the pandemic.

This Winthrop Magazine begins with a comprehensive look at the pandemic's effect on our institution and our swift reaction. Other items include:

-The creativity of our College of Visual and Performing Arts' faculty and students, who experienced a challenging end to the spring semester that required out-of-the-box thinking;
-The compassion and genuine concern for our students' wellbeing that was shown by faculty members, as evidenced by Edie Dille' in the College of Business Administration;
-How Winthrop Athletics and our student-athletes were affected by the cancellation of spring sports seasons, and how one lacrosse player has advocated for students' mental health awareness;
-A compelling profile on Gregg Davis '92, director of Public Health Laboratories at George Washington University, whose team of scientists is learning more about the virus each day; and
-A look at some of our recent highlights, and news from the areas of university advancement and alumni relations.

I encourage you to explore the magazine by clicking on the link above. Please share the magazine with anyone who may be interested in all that is happening at Winthrop.

Thank you again for all that you do for Winthrop, and I look forward to talking with you soon.

Sincerely,

George
