Colleagues:
Thank you to all employees who braved the conditions to drive to work today. Based on the reports of continued deteriorating road conditions and the increasing number of road closings, we will shift to remote work for today for those who are able to work remotely. While offices must continue to function, telecommuting may be allowed for employees according to the “Emergency or Temporary Telecommuting Approval” section of the Telecommuting or Remote Employment Policy. Remember, employees must have Winthrop-assigned equipment to work from home and they must have work assigned that can be performed remotely. To be clear, employees are not required to leave campus, but should use their best judgment regarding travel conditions.
Options for employees who leave and are not able to work remotely:
-With the supervisor’s approval, employees may take annual leave.
-Non-exempt employees may use accrued comp time.
Options for office management:
-The internal and external customers, employees, students, etc. must be able to reach office personnel.
o If all employees within an office will be working remotely, signage on the door must indicate how to reach office personnel.
o Incoming calls may be transferred to another desk or to an employee’s cell phone (please make sure this is functional before leaving campus.)
-Supervisors must be able to reach employees; Teams is a great option.
Should the university experience a power loss or if other factors arise, additional information will be shared regarding any decision to close. Please use caution when on the roads, avoid standing water, and obey all traffic advisories.
Be safe out there!
