Let’s usher in our 140th academic year!
I hope to see many of you at Convocation this morning at 11 a.m. in Byrnes Auditorium (the first time since 2018!) to officially welcome our freshmen and transfer students into the Winthrop family.
There will be a new component at the ceremony’s end that we’re calling “Lighting the Winthrop Way.” Everyone will receive a battery operated candle to light and hold in unity. This symbolic act represents the light of learning, shared values, and the connection between past, present and future members of the Winthrop community. I think it will be a moving and poignant way to close out such a special time together.
Following Convocation, I hope you’ll cheer on our students as they participate in the Blue Line tradition. Please note that the Blue Line route is different this year. Led by the platform party, students will leave Byrnes, walk in front of Joynes and past the main entrance sign, and make their way to the Kinard lawn for a picnic lunch.
Please note that offices will close from 10:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in order for everyone to attend Convocation and the lunch.
See you soon!
