Dear Winthrop Community:
I am excited to share with you the summer Winthrop Magazine. In it you’ll find articles on one of our spring Commencement speakers, alumna and
actress Shanola Hampton. Many of you had the opportunity to meet Shanola during her
time on campus in May, and I know you’ll agree that she is a wonderful ambassador
for our university. There’s also a great feature on the university’s expansive art
collection, which includes recent pieces donated by supporters Charlie and Nancy Wofford.
I know you will be excited to read more about these and other interesting content
in this edition, including:
*Photos from April’s long-anticipated reopening of Byrnes Auditorium, the renovation
of which won the state’s 2025 stewardship award;
*Our marketing students’ recent partnership with Keystone Substance Abuse Services that took them to Washington, D.C., last month;
*Compelling profiles on former trustee Jane LaRoche ’69, ’70, one of the university’s most dedicated alumnae, and Jimmy Duncan ’10, ’12, Rock Hill Schools’ first athletic director who is championing girls’ flag football in area middle schools; and
*The latest campus happenings, alumni news and university advancement updates.
As always, thank you for your support as we work together to kick off another fantastic
academic year, our 140th! I hope to see you at Convocation on Aug. 25!
Always an Eagle,
Edward
