Congratulations on your admission and welcome to the Winthrop community! We look
forward to learning more about you and your educational goals, presenting you with
information on the next steps in your journey to attend Winthrop, and sharing our
unique campus traditions with you.
Now that you have been admitted, we encourage you to review the steps that lead to
enrollment:
- All admitted students will need to obtain a Winthrop E-mail account. This account will be used to log on to Wingspan, the student portal. You will register
for classes on Wingspan. In order to register for a Winthrop University e-mail account and have access to Wingspan (Winthrop University Student Portal) you will need to enter your last name and the
last five digits of your student ID number (found on your admission letter).
- Living on campus is the best way of becoming immersed in life at Winthrop. Information on reserving
a room will be sent to you by our Department of Residence Life. Submit your housing reservation forms early! Housing is assigned by the date your
residence hall application is received.
- Mandatory International Student Orientation is held in January and August, prior to
the start of classes. If you arrive as a new student at Winthrop to begin classes in the summer you must
attend Orientation for the fall semester. Information on the dates of the mandatory
International Orientation will be included in your admission letter. As a participant
in Orientation, you will meet other new students and bond with your Orientation leader.
Additionally, you will receive information on your major and register for classes.
International Students do not have to register for Orientation as it is mandatory
and you are expected to attend.
- There is very important information on Arrival and Orientation and Campus Housing and Meals on our website as well as information on how to apply for your F or J visa and travel to the USA. These websites contain a lot of information but it is very important information.
Please take the time to review this information and contact the International Center if you have any questions.
- All US citizens are required to submit a $300 deposit to reserve their space for coming
to Winthrop this fall. International students are not required to pay this $300 fee as you already have the SEVIS fee and other visa fees
that need to be paid prior to your arrival.
- Review and submit the immunization information. All students must present immunization documentation before registering for classes.
International students must bring the medical form with you when you arrive at Winthrop or submit it via mail to the International
Center prior to your arrival on campus. Please note that documentation means a health
care provider must sign the form. If you have questions e-mail the International Center.
- Plan to become engaged on campus. Visit the Department of Student Affairs website and click on Programs and Services to learn more about clubs and organizations,
leadership opportunities, Greek life, recreation, multicultural student life, and
service learning.
- Ensure that your legal presence is verified. The State of South Carolina requires that legal presence in the United States be
verified for all students before enrollment in a public college or university. For
most students, legal presence will be verified through a process that has been adopted
by the University. All students on F and J visa's are verified through SEVIS during
Orientation. If you are planning to study at Winthrop while on another visa type,
including permanent residency, you need to contact the International Center prior
to class enrollment. Your legal presence will need to be verified through the SAVE
program prior to enrolling in classes for the upcoming semester. Complete information on the requirement can be viewed by clicking here.
