Sample 4 Year Plan

    Fall

    • General Biology I + Lab
    • General Chemistry I + Lab
    • College Writing or English Composition
    • Introduction to Psychology
    • Freshman Seminar or Elective

    Spring

    • General Biology II + Lab
    • General Chemistry II + Lab
    • College Algebra / Pre-Calculus / Stats (based on placement)
    • Introduction to Kinesiology / Health Professions Seminar
    • Elective (e.g., public health, medical ethics)

    The main goals of this year are to adjust to college academics, start exploring physical therapy through clubs or volunteering, and begin shadowing (even a few hours is helpful).

    Fall

    • Human Anatomy & Physiology I + Lab
    • Physics I + Lab
    • Developmental or Abnormal Psychology
    • Statistics
    • Elective (e.g., Sociology, Public Speaking)

    Spring

    • Human Anatomy & Physiology II + Lab
    • Physics II + Lab
    • Exercise Physiology or Biomechanics
    • Elective or Minor Course
    • Volunteer / Clinical Experience

    The main goals for this year include gaining 20–50+ clinical observation hours, identifying potential PT letter writers, and keeping GPA strong (>3.4 ideal). Consider summer shadowing, internships, or research.

    Fall

    • Upper-division science (e.g., Neuroscience or Motor Control)
    • Nutrition or Health Behavior
    • Research Methods or Advanced Stats
    • GRE Prep
    • Clinical/Volunteer Experience

    Spring

    • Additional science (e.g., Cell Biology, Biomechanics if not taken yet)
    • Elective or Minor course
    • Begin working on personal statement
    • Request letters of recommendation
    • Finalize PT school list

    Summer

    • Take GRE (if required)
    • Complete 100+ observation hours (multiple settings)
    • Submit PTCAS application (June–August)

    Fall

    • Capstone course / Internship (if in major)
    • Remaining upper-division or elective courses
    • Stay involved in clinical or service activities
    • Interview at PT schools (if invited)

    Spring

    • Finish degree requirements
    • Plan for transition to DPT program
    • CPR certification / First Aid (if needed)
