Personalized Advising

Meet with a Pre-Health Advisor

One-on-one advising ensures your plan aligns with your goals and strengths. Discuss course load, gap years, entrance exams, application timelines, and more.

Reaching out to your academic advisor is a crucial step in exploring your pre-health career options. These professionals can help you clarify your interests, guide you through the prerequisites for various health professions, and assist in developing a realistic academic and extracurricular plan.

Whether you are considering medicine, dentistry, physical therapy, or another healthcare field, your advisor can provide valuable insights into course selection, clinical experience opportunities, and application timelines.

Your advisor can also help you reflect on your strengths and interests, introduce you to relevant campus resources, and connect you with opportunities such as internships, summer programs, or job shadowing. Importantly, they can offer perspective if your interests shift or if you face academic challenges, helping you stay motivated and adaptable.

Building a relationship with your mentor also opens the door to personalized support, letters of recommendation, and encouragement throughout your journey. Do not hesitate to schedule a meeting, taking the initiative shows commitment to your goals and sets you on a strong path forward.

As a freshman or a transfer student, you are assigned a faculty advisor during summer orientation.  You will keep the same advisor during your freshman year.  Not only will your advisor help with program selections and scheduling, but will also be available to assist you with your adjustment to university life throughout the first year.

Academic advisors are valuable partners in your educational journey, providing guidance on course selection, degree requirements, and long-term academic planning. They can help you explore options, understand policies, and make informed decisions aligned with your goals. However, it is ultimately your responsibility as a student to register for courses, monitor your progress, and ensure you are meeting all requirements for graduation. Staying proactive, prepared, and engaged in the advising process is key to staying on track and making the most of your college experience.

Making an Appointment with Your Advisor

During early registration periods, all faculty members will either have a schedule of times listed on their office door or send you an e-mail asking you to use technology to select an appointment time for advising.  During all other times, you may schedule an appointment by calling, e-mailing, or visiting your advisor.  Faculty office hours are posted on their doors.
