Dr. Joanna R. Jackson, or simply "Dr. J" to her students, is Chair of the Department of Management & Marketing and Assistant Professor of Healthcare Management. She is passionate about preparing students to become career-ready leaders through experiential learning, meaningful mentorship, and community engagement.
Dr. Jackson earned her Ph.D. in Health Policy & Management from the Indiana University Fairbanks School of Public Health and her Master of Science in Nursing with a concentration in Nursing Administration from Xavier University. She is a Registered Nurse (Midway University) with more than a decade of clinical and leadership experience in behavioral health, including opioid treatment programs and inpatient psychiatry.
Her research interests include behavioral health services, substance use treatment, public health law, healthcare management, and the academic health science workforce. As an educator, she enjoys helping students connect classroom learning to real-world challenges and believes that the strongest learning happens through relationships, hands-on experiences, and service to others.
Dr. Jackson is the recipient of the 2020 Wells Fargo Excellence in Teaching Award, the 2021 Springs Industries Research Award, and the 2022 Excellence in Service Award.
