Dr. Vincent's research examines disaster in African American and African Diasporic literature and media, with a focus on how literary narratives produce and disrupt knowledge about race, gender, and environmental injustice. Her current book project, Ecologies of Vulnerability: Reading Hurricane Alley Literature through Disaster Criticism, interrogates literature from the U.S. Gulf South and Caribbean through the lens of critical disaster studies. She has published articles on disaster in the literature of Zora Neale Hurston and Gloria Naylor, as well as on narrative medicine and equitable patient care within disaster response. Dr. Vincent teaches courses in literature, writing, and interdisciplinary humanities that invite students to examine how literature (re)shapes our understanding of history, culture, and the environment.
