Dr. Sandy Rogers completed her doctorate in Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) in 2020 at the Theologische Fakultät of the Universität Leipzig in Germany. Her dissertation, A Fresh Start Comes from God: Theological, Historical, and Sociological Background of Clean-Slate Acts of Leviticus 25 and Deuteronomy 15, put the biblical laws in conversation with the ancient Mesopotamian tradition of Clean Slate edicts, highlighting both how the biblical authors participated in and were influenced by the larger culture and how they recast these traditions for their own theological purposes.
Dr. Rogers’ current research interests include the books of the Megillot or Five Scrolls (Song of Songs, Ruth, Lamentations, Ecclesiastes, and Esther), particularly the Song of Songs and continuing work in the laws of slave release in the biblical law codes. She has also presented and chaired a section at the Southern Political Science Association (SPSA) meeting in January 2025.
Dr. Rogers won the Outstanding Adjunct of the Year award for Winthrop University’s College of Arts and Sciences for the year 2024-2025.
