I am a veteran educator with experience at all levels. I am passionate about education and the promise it holds for our citizens and am especially passionate about the Spanish language and culture.
My career expands over 39 years in Spain and North and South Carolina. I am a retired School Superintendent from North Carolina and have been instructing Spanish at Winthrop University and York Technical College for the past seven years. In addition, I supervise teachers who are completing their teaching certificates in North and South Carolina. I have graduated from four different Universities with a Doctorate and three Master-level degrees.
My first teaching job was in Salamanca, Spain where I lived for 4 years and currently live part-time throughout the year. During my career, I have instructed Spanish in-person and online in various public-school districts, served as Assistant Principal, Principal, Assistant Superintendent, Superintendent and worked 4 years at the NC Department of Public Instruction.
I have worked in the areas of testing and accountability, exceptional children, curriculum and instruction, career and technical education, elementary, middle, and high school curriculum, evaluation of personnel, Race to the Top federal grant fund management, Common Core curriculum implementation, professional development, Federal programs, virtual instruction, dropout prevention, opening new schools and construction at others.
My favorite place to visit in the Spanish-speaking world is Salamanca, Spain as I have 40+ years of family and friends there and it is my “home-away-from-home”. The food is amazing and I really love eating most things in Spain. The “Spanish tortilla” would be a favorite, for sure as well as the cheeses and cured hams!
I have a strong work ethic and a passion for high quality instruction, particularly regarding the Spanish language and culture. I actually love teaching grammar topics and sharing my personal travel experiences to the 10 Spanish-speaking countries I have visited to date. I also love teaching about anything specific to Spain.
