Dr. Bird completed his doctorate in computer science at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Prior to his doctoral work, he also earned an M.S. in Statistics, an M.A. in Applied Physics/Applied Mathematics, and a B.A. in Mathematics.
Before joining Winthrop, Dr. Bird was a faculty member for the graduate data science program at the University of Colorado Boulder, as well as the statistics department at the University of South Carolina. His research involves many areas of machine learning and statistical modeling, from the implementation of artificial intelligence for deep space travel to model optimization in public opinion research.
