Senior Citizens

Welcome! We are glad you are interested in taking classes at Winthrop University. Under the provisions of Section 59-111-320 of the South Carolina Code of Laws, state supported colleges and universities are authorized to permit legal residents of South Carolina who have attained the age of 60 to attend classes for credit or noncredit purposes on a space available basis without the required payment of tuition, if these persons meet admission and other standards deemed appropriate by the college or university.

A senior citizen is responsible for paying for a parking permit, as well as paying for any lab fees associated with courses, book purchases, and/or other course fees.  Senior citizens participating in this program will be permitted to register for classes when the semester begins, and can only enroll in classes where there are open seats available.
