Dr. David Schary is an associate professor of exercise science. He teaches and conducts research on sport psychology and health promotion. Prior to academia, Dr. Schary coached high school and college rowing. He rowed for four years at the University of California, Davis.

Dr. Schary also serves as the director of mental health and performance for Winthrop Athletics. In his role, he works with student-athletes to improve their performance and well-being.

Dr. Schary earned his Ph.D. in exercise and sport science with a concentration in exercise and sport psychology at Oregon State University. Currently, he is completing an M.Ed. in counseling and development with a concentration in clinical mental health counseling. Dr. Schary is also completing the requirements for the Association of Applied Sport Psychology’s Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC).
