Joining the Winthrop faculty in 2014, Dr. Schary is an Associate Professor of Exercise Science. His mission is to help students understand the importance of the psychological and social aspects of sport, exercise, and physical activity. Currently, he teaches Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity, Exercise and Health Promotion, and Research Methods in Physical Education and Sport Management. Dr. Schary's research interests include performance, leadership, and wellbeing across a variety of domains (e.g., athletics, business, emergency services, performing arts). Currently, he is researching the effect of leadership on wellbeing and performance. In addition to teaching and research, Dr. Schary is a performance consultant for Winthrop Athletics. He works with athletes and coaches to improve performance and wellbeing. Prior to academia, Dr. Schary coached rowing at the high school, collegiate, and masters levels. As a transplant to South Carolina, in his free time Dr. Schary enjoys exploring the area with his wife and twin daughters.
