Dr. Meredith Jones joined Winthrop University in 2024 as the Program Director of the Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) program. Dr. Jones teaches courses in the HDFS program as well as the Early Childhood program. Originally from North Carolina, she was a pre-kindergarten teacher before earning her Ph.D. in early childhood education from UNC-Chapel Hill. Dr. Jones also worked as a Child Care Program Specialist in the Office of Child Care in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in Washington, D.C. Before joining Winthrop, she worked at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington as the Program Coordinator and a faculty member in the Leadership, Policy, and Advocacy for Early Childhood program. Dr. Jones is a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the National Council for Family Relations (NCFR). When not teaching, she enjoys traveling, being outdoors, and playing disc golf.
Fun fact! Her great-grandmother graduated from Winthrop in 1929 with a degree in Home Economics - which has evolved into Human Development and Family Studies, the program she works in now.
