Dr. Shawnna Helf is a Professor of Literacy in the College of Education, Sport, and Human Sciences. She also serves as the Program Director for the M.Ed. in Literacy program. Dr. Helf came to Winthrop in 2009 and has taught a variety of graduate and undergraduate courses related to literacy and educational research. She previously worked as a research associate, curriculum coach, and elementary education teacher. She earned her M.A. in Elementary Education from West Virginia University, and her Ph.D. in Special Education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Her research interests include early reading intervention, instructional design, professional development, and school-wide reading models.
