We are laying the groundwork for a sustainable future by establishing the Winthrop Center for the Environment’s core mission and assembling an initial cohort of Faculty Affiliates. This phase kicks off exciting student experiences, including a new 3-day immersive field research course designed to take learning far beyond the traditional classroom.
This soft launch phase builds public visibility through strategic outreach, promotional events, and enhanced student experiences.
Innovation meets community as we focus on efforts that forge connections between Winthrop
and our broader community. Through impactful internships and both local and regional
partnerships, students apply their knowledge to real-world problems. We continue to
build a vibrant network that connects local expertise with campus ambition by assembling
a diverse Advisory Board and launching our first public events.
The Center launches with a high-profile official debut, featuring a provocative speaker series and the debut of our Environmental Fellowship program. With the guidance of our Advisory Board and Faculty Affiliates, we focus on expanding our academic impact through specialized courses in policy and planning, as well as growing the University Community Educational Garden into a thriving hub for sustainability.
We continue to scale our impact through the pursuit of new full-time faculty experts and a dedicated physical headquarters on campus. This visionary final phase aims for international field programs and prestigious accreditation, cementing our status as a world-class leader in environmental education.
