The West Forum sponsors an annual internship with a government agency or other political organization. The internship is available in spring semester, and it is open to all Winthrop University graduate and undergraduate students, regardless of field of study. Applications for the internships are available each fall semester. The West Forum intern receives a cash reward from the West Forum and may also receive academic credit for the internship.

Benjamin Byrd is a sophomore Political Science Major with a minor in Marketing. He is a resident assistant, peer mentor, and has worked with the Winthrop Poll. His future plans are to work as a lobbyist in the South Carolina State House and work on campaigns in Washington D.C.

Olivia Whitfield is a Political Science major with a minor in Legal Studies as well as Peace and Conflict Resolution studies. In her time at Winthrop, she served as a member of the Council of Student Leaders; was the Vice President of the Winthrop College Democrats; and has been an avid member and award-winning collegiate delegate in the Winthrop Model United Nations Program.
After graduation, Olivia plans to attend law school, where she will pursue her Juris Doctorate.
