Abigail Perito

Abigail is a political science major with a minor in professional writing from Murrells Inlet, SC. Her goal after graduation is to continue to promote education for a sustainable and peaceful global community. She has written for The Johnsonian and interned at the SC Biomass Council, and is currently active in the Students of Environmental Actions Coalition and the College Panhellenic Council.

Deborah Feldmann (Debs)

Deborah Feldmann (Debs) is a graduate student in the Master of Liberal Arts program. She graduated from Winthrop in 2017 as a post-traditional student with a major in Psychology and a minor in Art History. Debs is married and has two high-schoolers. After bringing up her boys, she recently resumed her accounting career, taking a position at the Palmetto School in Rock Hill, and volunteering in the Habitat for Humanity finance department in Charlotte. As an immigrant and new citizen (originally from the UK), Debs is interested in the American political process, signing up to be a voting poll worker and campaigning as an activist for legislative change. After graduate school, Debs plans to continue her work, volunteerism, and activism in the local area.

Hannah Lackey

Hannah Lackey is from San Antonio, Texas. She is a business administration major with a concentration in marketing and a minor in entrepreneurship. Hannah has been a member of the Winthrop Eagles Division I volleyball program all 4 years. Hannah has volunteered every fall at local elementary schools to read to children and teach them about the importance of staying active. She plans on pursuing a career in marketing specializing in business strategies and helping local businesses.

Mikayla

Mikayla Mangle

Mikayla Mangle is a political science and environmental studies double major with a minor in biology. She is from Greenville, South Carolina. She is involved with the club Serving Others and Reflecting (SOAR) on campus, currently serving as the environmental chair, where she promotes environmentalism across campus through community service events. She has also participated in two alternative spring break trips and is leading a trip that will focus on animal welfare. Mikayla is also a staff writer for the Johnsonian where she writes weekly articles for the science and technology section. Her passions are helping others and communities through leadership and service. After undergraduate school Mikayla plans to go on to law school and specialize in environmental law. Her goal is to practice law that focuses on environmental racism and environmental justice, promoting a fair healthy environment to everyone.

John Clemens

John Clemens is an Economics major and Political Science minor. He serves as an officer for the Winthrop University Student Veterans Organization and is a member of the Sigma Tau Honor Society. Additionally, he is a member of the College of Business and Technology Student Advisory Board. John is originally from Texas and moved to Rock Hill in 2015 after retiring from the U.S. Air Force and a 12-year stint in Northern Virginia with a defense contractor. He is married (Diane) with three grown children (Jonathan, Kelly, Cody) and one still at home (Emily). He comes to Winthrop University as a post-traditional student with an eye toward volunteerism and serving the community at the local level after graduation.

Casey Espich

Casey Espich is a History major and Political Science and Social Sciences double minor. He is currently serving as president of Phi Alpha Theta, the History Department's Honors Society. Casey also received the inaugural Jason H. Silverman Scholarship from the history department in 2015. Originally from Florence, Kentucky, he moved to Rock Hill in 2007. Casey transferred from York Technical College in 2013 and has since been active in organizing campus events that are aimed toward relating historical events to present contexts. He married his wife, Anna (Class of '09), in 2010, and they are expecting their first child in December of 2015.

Morgan Gleason

Morgan Gleason is a Family Consumer Science major with a concentration in adolescent studies and a minor in psychology. She transferred to Winthrop University in fall 2014 from Florida State College in Jacksonville, Florida. She has become involved with the Social and Behavioral Research Lab and is currently serving as the Vice President of the Wini-Facs Club at Winthrop.  She is interested in the political process and intends to work with struggling military families when she graduates.

Sarah Cohen

Sarah Cohen

Sarah Cohen is a dual major studying political science and philosophy and religion. She is from North Augusta, SC. On campus she has served as president of the political science honors society Pi Sigma Alpha and vice president of the ONE campaign at Winthrop. Sarah has also been very active in the Model United Nations program. Sarah has also worked as an intern for Senator Lindsey Graham. Sarah volunteers at Catawba Care and is on the HIV/AIDS Awareness Day Board there. She has received the Mary Jean Byrd Award for Civic Engagement. Sarah hopes to one day work in a non-profit organization advocating for the rights of women and children.

Garvin, Kambrell- large

Kambrell Garvin

Kambrell Garvin is a political science major from Columbia, SC. Kambrell has served as the chair of the Council of Student Leaders for 2011-12 and 2012-13, and he is the student representative to the Winthrop Board of Trustees. He is also a former State President of the South Carolina NAACP Youth and College Division. He has also been active in various community service projects, including Adopt-a-Freshman, Adopt-a-Highway, Relay for Life and Project Rebound. In 2012, Kambrell initiated a campus-wide voter registration drive through the Council of Student Leaders that resulted in to over 1,000 Winthrop students registering to vote. After graduation in May 2013, Kambrell intends to attend law school.

Sydney Evans

Sydney Evans is a political science major from Summerville, SC. On campus, she has served as the representative to the Quality Enhancement Plan Selection Committee, Library Committee, Vice President of the Theta Sigma Chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity, and two terms as Winthrop's student body president. Sydney also has been active in the Rock Hill community serving as the only student selected to assist in creating the Winthrop - City of Rock Hill College Town Action Plan. She is a three time recipient of the Dr. Dorothy Jones Award and most recently received the Joe B. Lanford Scholarship and Internship with the City of Rock Hill. Her future plans include working in public administration and pursuing a MBA.

Courtney Glen

While at Winthrop, Courtney Glenn was a political science major minoring in international studies with a focus on Latin America. On campus, she was an active member of the Multicultural Student Council, Spanish Club, and Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. Courtney graduated from Winthrop in May 2011 with plans to pursue a graduate degree in Public Policy.

Rachel Luellen

Rachel Luellen (pictured on left), originally from Charleston, South Carolina, transferred to Winthrop in the spring of 2009 from Trident Tech; where she was on the dean's list for all four semesters. While at Winthrop, Rachel majored in business with a focus on international business. After graduating from Winthrop, Rachel planned to pursue a law degree.

Sandel, Cali

Cali Sandel

 Cali Sandel, a political science major from Lexington, SC, was the inaugural West Forum intern. After graduating Cum Laude from Winthrop in August of 2009, Cali began the Masters in Public Administration program at Clemson University and currently has a 4.0 GPA. Cali worked for the Town of Fort Mill on a variety of projects, including annexation and fire protection, and she conducted interviews concerning storm water drainage for the Engineering Director. Her future plans include working on international policy issues in Washington DC.
