Technology Projects

To better serve our community, the Computing & Information Technology department regularly takes on upgrade and renovation projects across campus. These projects help keep Winthrop secure and improve resources available to faculty, staff, students, and visitors. This page will be updated regularly as we make progress on these projects. 

 

Current Projects

Telephone System Replacement
Start Date: Jan. 2026 Expected Completion Date: April 2026 Areas Affected: Entire campus
Overview: The legacy telephone system is being replaced with a state-of-the-art cloud-based VoIP system.

Updates: 

  • February 2026: Phones have been deployed in Tillman and McLaurin.
WiFi Upgrade
Start Date: Nov. 2021 Expected Completion Date: Ongoing Areas Affected: Entire campus
Overview: Throughout the year WiFi equipment will be upgraded in several buildings to ensure reliable Internet access in learning environments and offices for faculty, staff and students.

Updates: 

  • December 2025: Completed refresh in DiGiorgio Center.
Classroom Technology Update
Start Date: Sept. 2021 Expected Completion Date: Ongoing Areas Affected: Entire campus
Overview: Technology in classrooms such as projectors, audio/visual equipment, and computers will be upgraded to better meet the instructional needs of faculty and students.

Updates: 

  • Summer 2025: Completed multiple rooms in Kinard, Thurmond, Carroll, and Owens.
