Storage Management

The size of files uploaded to Blackboard affects system performance, backup capacity, and contributes substantially to rising data storage costs. Please help us maintain an efficient learning environment through the following measures:

1. Maximum File Size for Uploads to Blackboard Courses: The maximum per-file size for direct uploads to Blackboard will be 200 MB as of January 5, 2026. Please use, and have your students use, the Panopto video hosting platform to share videos in Blackboard rather than uploading raw video files. For assistance with managing video or other file types, please contact the Office of Online Learning.
2. Retention of Blackboard Courses: All Blackboard courses older than 10 years will be permanently removed from the system beginning February 2, 2026. If you have a course older than 10 years that you wish to preserve, please contact the Office of Online Learning prior to February. Blackboard courses containing a term of 201510 or prior in the course ID are subject to removal. All Blackboard organizations will remain on the system.

To Create and Submit a Panopto Video

1. Open the Assignment or Discussion Topic and click in the Text Box.
2. On the toolbar of the Text Box, click the icon, which looks like a circle with a plus symbol inside of it, to open the Add Content menu. Select Content Market, then scroll down and select Panopto Student Video Submission.
   1. A window will open with three tabs - Choose, Upload, and Record.
   2. The Choose tab will display the videos that you have previously saved in your Panopto video library. The default folder is your personal folder (My Folder). Click the drop-down menu at the top, left if you need to select a different folder. Select the radio button for the video that you wish to submit.
   3. To upload a video from your computer, click on the Upload tab.
   4. To record a video, click on the Record tab, then click on the Launch Capture button.
3. Click Insert.
4. An Insert Content Market item box will appear. Click Insert.
5. Your video will be added to the Text Box. Add any additional information needed and click Submit or Respond.
