Master of Arts in Teaching

Graduate candidates who hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in the content field where certification is sought or who have completed a baccalaureate degree which includes content area course work equivalent to the undergraduate certification requirements at Winthrop University for certification in the specified content field may enroll in the MAT degree program. Graduate candidates who do not meet all undergraduate certification requirements will be required to complete additional course work. 

Application requirements for graduate degree status include: 

1. The online Graduate Studies application with the non-refundable application fee.

2. Official transcript(s) from all institutions attended for undergraduate and graduate coursework. Transcripts must be sent directly to Winthrop's Graduate Studies office from the issuing institution(s). 

3. Minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale OR official test scores for either:

GRE (preferred scores are 151 Verbal, 153 Quantitative) OR
Miller Analogies Test (preferred score of 392)

 

4. Applicants to the MAT degree in Spanish and French must also submit the South Carolina passing score on the Praxis AND evidence of having the ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview. It is recommended that applicants show proficiency at the advanced low level. Graduate coursework will not be focused directly on continued language learning.
