Specialist in Educational Leadership (Ed.S.)

 

The Winthrop Specialist in Educational Leadership is designed to develop school district leaders who are interested in becoming superintendents, central office administrators, program directors, and leaders in curriculum and instruction.

    Through course work these educators will utilize research-based strategies in developing application skills in human, fiscal, legal, and political management. These skills will be honed through an advanced field experience consisting of a year-long practicum developed in a collaborative method involving public school partners. 


    Time to completion: 2 years

      Educational Leadership (Specialist) Curriculum

        Applicants for admission to the Specialist in Educational Leadership program must meet the following requirements to be eligible for consideration:

        • Three years of teaching experience and two years of school or comparable leadership experience;  

        • Satisfy one of the following:

          • Option 1:  Possess an M.Ed. or equivalent in Educational Leadership with an overall GPA of 3.25 and possess licensure as a school principal (Option 1 is for candidates who possess licensure as a school principal and are seeking Superintendent certification).

          • Option 2:  Possess an M.Ed. with an overall GPA of 3.25 (Option 2 is for educators desiring an educational leadership degree without seeking Superintendent certification).

        Application requirements for the Specialist in Educational Leadership program include:

        • The online Graduate School application with the non-refundable application fee.

        • Submit official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate course work. Official transcripts from degree-granting institutions must be sent directly to our office from the issuing institutions. Non-degree coursework can be submitted on unofficial transcripts.

        • Three recommendations that address the applicant’s specific qualifications and dispositions.

         

        Note: In addition to the above requirements, the selection process may also include assessments, activities, and interviews to further determine eligibility for admission.
