We are glad that you are exploring one of our 40+ programs of study.  While most information is available online, we know it is often helpful to talk with someone or send a quick email question. If you have any questions along the way, please do not hesitate to contact us at 803/323-2204 or We look forward to hearing from you so we can discuss your future at Winthrop.

Why Winthrop?

Quality: Winthrop is a public university of distinction founded in 1886, and our first graduate degree was conferred in 1912. Our academic programs are measured by national standards of quality. Winthrop University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Faculty:  Our faculty members have distinguished themselves as Fulbright Scholars, recognized artists, publishers, and community leaders; and above all, they are interested in our students as individuals. Our students and alumni often say how much they appreciate the individual attention and support they receive from their professors.

Small, student-centered programs: Small programs and classes foster relationship-building and academic success. As a Winthrop graduate student, you will form close bonds with your professors and classmates. This network will serve you well as both a student and a professional.

Professional development:  Students move beyond the classroom and learn through in-depth research, internships, projects, and service-learning partnerships. Students also learn from each other, sharing past experiences and applying them to the lesson or task at hand.  Many students embrace opportunities to travel and present research at professional conferences.
