Application requirements include:
1. The online Graduate School application with the non-refundable application fee;
2. Transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate coursework. Transcripts from degree-granting
institutions must be sent directly to our office from the issuing institutions. Transcripts
can be sent to 211 Tillman Hall, Rock Hill, SC 29733 or gradschool@winthrop.edu;
3. A statement of goals;
4. A copy of your current South Carolina State Department of Education Class III Professional
Certificate or the equivalent from another state;
5. Have an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale OR
Submit an official GRE score of 151 on the Verbal Reasoning section and 153 on the Quantitative Reasoning Section OR Submit an official score of 392 or above on the Miller Analogies Test (MAT);
6. Present two recommendations to include a recommendation from the applicant's current principal and district level administrator. In the online application you will be required to enter the names and e-mail addresses for your current principal and district level administration. They will then receive an e-mail asking them to complete the online recommendation form.
7. Complete a pre-entrance assessment based on the 7 standards of the National Board
for Educational Administration. (Interview, presentation and writing sample).
Note: The first 6 application items must be submitted before receiving the pre-entrance
assessment information.
Pre-entrance interviews will be conducted once the application materials are received.
The admissions committee considers all the requirements previously listed when making
the admissions decisions. Applicants will receive notification of the Admissions Committee's
decision from the Graduate School Office. Admission to the Educational Leadership
program is competitive. New admissions classes will not exceed 25 candidates.
The MEd in Educational Leadership is offered in a cohort fashion with sequenced specialty
studies being offered six to nine hours per semester. A candidate who drops out of
the program will have to wait a full year to re-enroll on a space available basis.
