Need Help Changing Your Schedule?

If you need assistance in changing your fall 2020 schedule please email and a member of the Student Academic Services Staff will respond to you. We encourage you to include the following in your email to facilitate a quicker response: a) full name in Winthrop records; b) CWID number (the W-number); c) your Winthrop and alternative email address; d) a cell number; e) you major and advisor (if known); and f) the specific nature of the needed support (the more information you can give the better).


Mission Statement

The Richard W. Riley College of Education's Student Academic Services (SAS) primarily serves undergraduate and Master of Arts in Teaching students enrolled in majors and minors within the college. In addition to these primary stakeholders, the office supports faculty advising in the college and completers of all educator preparation programs in obtaining certification. The SAS staff is focused on providing assistance and helpful resources in the areas of advising, student success, recruitment, retention, certification, admission to the Teacher Education Program, and college-specific scholarships. Our mission aligns with the College of Education’s vision of empowering our students to positively impact the world, and our work is guided by the Winthrop University values of service, excellence, diversity, community, and leadership.

    Student Academic Services is the academic hub for all students in the Richard W. Riley College of Education.

    Mrs. Carol Adams, Administrative Specialist, is your first contact for questions. Mrs. Adams can help you determine who best can answer your questions. Further, Mrs. Adams is our Via support coordinator.

    Ms. Ruth Gaylor, Academic Advisement Coordinator, is our chief advising specialist in the college. Ms. Gaylor works with faculty in support of advising questions, will serve as an advisor for undergraduate students when faculty are away from campus, and is the first contact for transfer students.

    Ms. Joanna Harris, Educator Services Coordinator, is the first point of contact for admission to the Teacher Education Program, teacher certification, and college-level scholarships. Ms. Harris is the secondary advisor for Educational Studies Minors.

    Dr. Beth Costner, Associate Dean for Accreditation and Student Services, provides support for all processes in the office.

    Student Academic Services is located at 144 Withers in the Richard W. Riley College of Education.

    In fall and spring terms, the office is open Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.

    In the summer, the office is open Monday to Thursday 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and Friday 8-11:30 a.m.

    Coordinates admission to the Teacher Education Program

    Oversees undergraduate advising for College of Education 

    Coordinates teacher certification processes

    Assists in processing of SC Teacher Loan applications for Winthrop Students

    Faciliates scholarship process in the College of Education

    Processes ETS voucher system, background checks, and name badge replacement

    Supports students and faculty with use of Via
