Student Academic Services

Mission Statement

The Richard W. Riley College of Education's Student Academic Services serves as an information and service center for matters concerning degree programs in the College. It has primary responsibility for coordination of academic advising, recruitment, and all matters pertaining to certification. Student Academic Services coordinates admission to the Teacher Education Program, scholarships, special events sponsored by the College, and helps to ensure that academic requirements and regulations of the University are met.

Student Academic Services is the academic hub for all students in the Richard W. Riley College of Education. The office is directed by Dr. Beth Costner, Associate Dean for Accreditation and Student Services. The staff includes: Ms. Joanna Harris, Educator Services Coordinator, Ms. Ruth Gaylor, Academic Advisement Coordinator, and Mrs. Carol Adams, Administrative Specialist. This office provides services and information for all students who want to become teachers.

Student Academic Services is located at 144 Withers in the Richard W. Riley College of Education. The staff is responsible for assisting students in their planning and academic needs. Some of the main responsibilities of Student Academic Services are to communicate with all College of Education students by producing a calendar of important dates at the beginning of each fall semester, and disseminate current information related to the Teacher Education Program on bulletin boards, the video monitors, and a professional blog.

Student Academic Services also maintains data on students in the Teacher Education Program, works with those students seeking admission to the Teacher Education Program, coordinates all advising for College of Education students, and assists with certification paperwork for those applying for certification in South Carolina and in other states.
