Dr. Prus is professor emeritus of psychology and formerly served as Chair of the Department of Psychology at Winthrop. He completed his doctorate in school psychology at the University of Kentucky prior to joining the Winthrop faculty in 1980.

Dr. Prus has practiced psychology in a variety of settings, including public schools, pediatric hospitals, and community settings for persons with disabilities. He has served in leadership roles at the local, state, and national levels, including chairing (for 13 years) the board that accredits school psychology programs for the National Association of School Psychologists and twice chairing the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education executive board. He has published widely in school psychology and has received numerous honors and awards, including selection as Winthrop's Distinguished Professor in 1989, the Trainers of School Psychologists Trainer of the Year award in 2010, and the National Association of School Psychologists Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015.
