History

Established in 2025, the Office for Student Success (OSS) is a network of offices, programs, services, and resources that help students find academic success, engage in excellence, and participate in high impact practices at Winthrop and beyond. The Office for Student Success was formerly known as University College, which was founded on July 1, 2003, and has a long legacy of helping students be academically successful.

OSS departments and programs include the Academic Success Center, the Center for Advising and Transfer Success, the Learning Excellent Academic Practices program, Winthrop's McNair Scholars, the Office for the First Year Experience, the Office of Nationally Competitive Awards, the Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Scholarship, the TRiO Achievers Program, Academy 101 (ACAD) and the Human Experience (HMXP) General Education core courses, along with the Common Book experience.
