Start planning the adventure of a lifetime!

Due to Covid-19, the International Center has temporarily relocated. No one is working in Dinkins 218 at this time, and all study abroad advising will take place remotely until further notice.

STEP 1:  Attend a Group Advising Session.

All Winthrop students who are interested in summer, semester or academic year study abroad are required to complete the Study Abroad Group Advising module available on Blackboard before applying to any program.  The module, which includes an intake form and a video about study abroad options available to Winthrop students, takes approximately 25 minutes to complete. If you are unable to complete the Blackboard module, please email to request a remote group advising session on a different platform.

STEP 2: Set up an account in the Study Abroad Portal.

Winthrop students can search for summer, semester, or year-long study abroad programs by country or major, learn more about eligibility requirements and costs, sign up to receive study abroad updates, and apply for programs through the Study Abroad Portal

STEP 3: Meet with the Study Abroad Coordinator.

After completing the group advising module, you will receive a link inviting you to book an advising appointment with the study abroad coordinator. But that meeting is just the beginning! Planning for study abroad generally follows a timeline like this:

  • Semester 1: Research programs and funding options. Discuss academic and financial plans with the study abroad coordinator, academic advisors, financial aid office, and family.
  • Semester 2: Apply to Winthrop for approval to study abroad. Submit other applications required for the study abroad program and/or study abroad scholarships as needed.,
  • Summer or Semester 3: Study abroad

Planning ahead is the best way to choose a study abroad program that fits your academic goals and budget. Let us help! If you have any questions, please contact the International Center at
